Emmarts Pierpont Safe House Gathering in September


On September 3rd, 2019 Maryland Governor, Larry Hogan, proclaimed September to be International Underground Railroad Day. According to Maryland Department of Commerce website, The month also "recognizes Maryland as the most powerful destination for authentic Underground Railroad history. It also commemorates all those involved in the Underground Railroad, including Maryland’s courageous Harriet Tubman, the brilliant orator Frederick Douglass, and thousands of freedom seekers."


On September 11,2021, in commemoration of this month, there will be a gathering at the Emmart Pierpont Safe House located 3523 N. Rolling Road, Windsor Mill, MD 21244 at 12 noon. The Emmart Pierpont Safe House, a Baltimore County Landmark, was built in 1791 and was a station on the Underground Railroad..
