We are sharing this information for your safety and awareness:

Good morning, On behalf of our partners at the State, please see the following updates:

Beware of scammers: The Office of the Attorney General, Consumer Protection Division put out a press release about telephone scammers spoofing local hospitals and public utilities to steal personal information and threaten to terminate Medicare Benefits. Because these incoming calls appear to be legitimate on the recipient’s Caller ID, these scams are a particularly dangerous type of deception. If you are not expecting a call, be very wary of any calls that appear on your caller ID to be coming from a medical facility or public utility. If you do receive an unexpected phone call that displays the name of a local hospital, medical facility, doctor’s office, or public utility, the Attorney General recommends that you let the call go to voicemail. You can then call the hospital or utility directly – using a telephone number listed on an official website. Never give any personal information to a caller you do not know or on a call you did not initiate. To learn more, check out the press release here.

Unemployment: Temporary federal pandemic unemployment benefit programs end in Maryland on July 3, 2021. Maryland will opt out of the following four temporary federal unemployment insurance (UI) programs:

  • Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA)

  • Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation (PEUC)

  • Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation (FPUC)

  • Mixed Earners Unemployment Compensation (MEUC)

New applications for these federal programs will not be accepted after July 3. However, the Maryland Division of Unemployment Insurance will process all claims for these programs that are received on or before July 3. Beginning the week of July 4, Labor will reinstate the standard requirement for all regular state unemployment insurance claimants to actively search for work by engaging in three reemployment activities each week. For more information on Maryland Unemployment Insurance check out their website.

Foreclosure: Free brief legal consultations for homeowners facing foreclosure are offered virtually by Maryland Volunteer Lawyer Services.
